Choosing a color palette is one of the first decisions a bride faces when planning her wedding. With the color being infused in everything from the obvious to the subtle, this task can prove daunting for the less than detail-oriented brides; while, on the other hand, some have known they would have pink peonies in their bouquet since the age of six. Whichever category you fall in, or if find yourself somewhere in between, many brides are considering 2012 color of the year.

Pantone, the global authority on color, has announced Tangerine Tango  as the official color of 2012. This hue has been described by Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute, as “sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive…an orange with a lot of depth to it.”

While some people adore orange, others find it hard to accommodate given its tendency to be overbearing in any color scheme. However, with white taking center stage on a bride’s big day, orange has the ability to provide a much needed pop of color.

Pantone’s announcement can leave you assured of finding an array of bridesmaid dresses, the obvious way to incorporate color into the wedding, in varying shades of orange. If subtlety is more your style, try introducing this vibrant color through your accessories. Wearing an elegant, yet understated, gown? Let a dramatic orange statement piece, a la chandelier earring or cocktail ring, speak to your fun side. Already have your heart set on a spectacular show-stopping dress? Allow the typically attention grabbing hue, to take a backseat by wearing it as a simple stud earring.

Be it a summer wedding on the beach or a winter wedding where guests watch waves crash from the warmth of an indoor venue, choosing a color is an opportunity to showcase the couple’s personalities. Yes, the official Pantone color is exact. However, brides should allow for flexibility. If the wedding is in the evening, and she wants sophistication, choose a shade darker with more red. If the event will be taking place outdoors and she desires a laidback atmosphere, lean towards a coral or a brighter orange.
