2016 Outer Banks Bride Magazine: Katie & Chase’s Proposal

When I laid my eyes on Chase’s proposal to Katie for the 2016 Outer Banks Bride Magazine, I knew that it would be one of the sweetest things I will ever have the honor of viewing. With ALC Wedding Photography secretly capturing every tear and love-filled moment, Chase popped the question to Katie, in front of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, with her Mom and friends their to witness it all!

How they met: “I’m almost embarrassed to admit that Chase and I met through Facebook, of all places! Long story short I knew Chase’s older brother Shawn and his wife Sherri. At some point in time in March of 2012 Shawn shared a photo of Chase’s on his Facebook page. Not realizing the photo was someone else’s I thought it was funny and decided to “like” it. Little did I know Chase would be the one to receive the notification. After checking the notification Chase decided he needed to find out more about this “Katie Grace” girl so he did some investigation of his own and made a bold move to send a friend request to a girl he didn’t even know! I remember getting the friend request and having no clue who in the world this Chase Cromer guy was. I checked out his page and made the connection to Shawn and Sherri and figured out who he was. I even asked my Mom if she thought it would be rude to delete the request since I found it a little creepy that he sent it not knowing me. She told me there was no harm in accepting it and I definitely didn’t want to come across as stuck up to his family members just in case he told them I didn’t accept his request. Clearly I thought way too much about this. Three days after accepting the request a message popped into my inbox from none other than Chase Cromer…a month of messaging back and forth later I finally accepted his offer to go out on a date and another month later after getting to know each other even better he asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course I said yes!”

How he asked: “Chase knew how much I loved Hatteras and the Outer Banks from all of the stories I told him about growing up vacationing there in the summertime. In April the ladies in my family traveled to the Outer Banks so that my sister Carrie and I could compete in the Flying Pirate Half Marathon for the third year in a row. On Saturday we ran the First Flight 5k and on Sunday we ran the half marathon. Monday was our free day to go out and visit our favorite places on the island. When we arrived to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse I noticed a photographer taking pictures of the lighthouse and thought it was so cool. I turned the corner and realized that she too turned her lens and focused on me. At this point I turned around and asked my Mom what in the world was going on. When I turned back around that’s when I saw Chase walking down the steps of the lighthouse to meet me. I immediately burst into tears because I knew there was only one reason he could be here.”

2016 Outer Banks Bride Magazine: Emily & Martin’s Proposal

With our 2016 Outer Banks Bride Magazine hot off the press, we are excited to begin a blog series highlighting more inspiration from the published proposals, engagements, weddings and styled shoots!

Local to the Outer Banks, Emily had confided in Martin the sense of peace and calm that encompasses her every-time she crosses the Manteo Bridge. Knowing how special this location is to her, Martin surprised Emily on the Manteo waterfront with a champagne proposal and Courtney Hathaway Photography capturing the entire moment! We just love how they stuck around for a few photos after getting engaged too!

How they met: “We met the summer before our senior year at NC State University. I (Emily) was about to go home to wait tables on the Outer Banks for the summer season but we had our first date at Mellow Mushroom in Raleigh before I left. We talked on the phone a lot over the summer and made it official when I returned to college in the fall!”

How he asked: “I was at home on the Outer Banks for the weekend visiting with friends and family and Martin was supposedly in Charlotte for work. Martin had gotten in touch with my best friends Krista and Taz and they convinced me they had a gift certificate for 1587 in Manteo that needed to be used on Friday afternoon. I’m always up for a good meal, and happily obliged. When we got to the Waterfront my girlfriends suggested that we walk down the boardwalk for a good selfie before dinner. For my friend Taz who is always making us take photos this was nothing out of the ordinary. When we had been walking for what seemed like forever I asked my friends if we could please stop walking and take the picture as I was ready to eat, haha. They looked down the boardwalk and told me to keep walking. When I looked up and saw someone standing at the end of the walkway I knew it was Martin. At that point I also thought I knew why he was there so I ugly cried the en tire walk to meet him. I think I blacked out for a portion of his speech, but it was perfect and he got down on one knee with Courtney Hathaway Photography hiding behind the bushes snapping shots! I didn’t even notice them until after he popped the question.”

Why did Martin pop the question on the Outer Banks? “I’m so proud to call the Outer Banks my hometown and Martin has heard me say many times that a sense of peace and calm washes over me every time I cross over the Manteo Bridge and see the water on each side of me. He wanted that special place to be a part of our story, and it meant so much that he chose to do it there.”

Q & A with Allison of Cosmo’s Pizza

Q: How did you get into wedding catering?

A: “I have been involved with restaurants my whole life. However, almost 15 years ago, I bought Cosmo’s Pizza, and in those years I’ve gained invaluable experience operating a high-volume restaurant.  It has also provided me the opportunity to open another restaurant with a bigger kitchen and more equipment to expand out catering capabilities.  My Executive Chef, Bryan Maher, and I did our first poolside wedding reception in 2006.  And in the years since then, I have opened another restaurant, allowing us to expand our capabilities even more– to handle more clients and more sophisticated requests.  This past summer, we purchased the mobile wood fired pizza oven, and we haven’t had a weekend off since!  We’ve been booked with rehearsals dinners, birthday parties, community picnics, family dinners, festivals, and other events.  Each event leads to another when people are able to gather around the oven and see (and taste!) what it can do.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about weddings on the Outer Banks?

A: “My favorite thing about weddings on the Outer Banks is definitely the beach!  Whether the wedding is black-tie or barefoot, the sand, the air, and the waves seem to relax everyone and let them enjoy the moment.”

Q: What makes you stand out from other wedding caterers?

A: “Our mobile wood-fired oven is one-of-a-kind!  We are the only company on the Outer Banks that can offer wood-fired cooking on site.  The warm glow of the oven and the smell of the pizza baking are unique aspects of our company that really draw people in.  And nothing compares to the taste of a fresh, wood-fired pizza!  We use only the freshest ingredients– veggies from the Raleigh Farmers market, locally sourced meats, and, of course, fresh local seafood.  If the local market doesn’t have what wee need, we bring in the very best, like Caputo Flour from Italy and organic crushed tomatoes from Chris Bianco and Rob DiNapoli in California.”

Q: What are you most excited about for the 2016 Outer Banks Wedding Weekend & Expo?

A: “We are really looking forward to showing off the new mobile wood fired pizza oven this year at the 2016 Outer Banks Wedding Association Expo.  Although it’s kept us busy with all types of events since we bought it in June, we got it particularly with weddings in mind, and we can’t wait for brides and grooms to see it.”

2016 Platinum Sponsor: Currituck BBQ Company

One of my favorite things about The Outer Banks Wedding Association’s Expo is getting to see the gents of Currituck BBQ Company! While the savory, slow-cooked BBQ is to-die-for, their team’s charisma and presence enhances the craftsmanship of their cuisine.  Started by a father and soon, it is obvious that all of the food by Currituck BBQ Company is a true labor of love!

Trust me when I say, you will not to miss Currituck BBQ Company at the Expo or during the Wedding Tour where they will continue the celebration at Sanctuary Vineyards!
